Another ID requested

Postby Arborigine » Fri Oct 30, 2009 12:41 am

Hello. I have not been able to identify my mother's Rosenthal tea set. It is white with silver, either inlay or thick plating. It was brought home from Germany in 1954. It is marked "Rosenthal, Bahnhof Selb, Germany, Chippendale, but does not look like the Chippendale pattern that I found on Google. I have a photo posted here, Image
Could you please name the pattern and estimate the year of manufacture?
Thank you, P. Calmann

This may help, it doesn't match any of the hallmark designs shown on another topic.

I too have this pattern. My Father brought it back from Europe during World War II. Our set includes a pot, 6 cups and saucers, creamer, and sugar bowls. I have not found anything about this pattern on the web except for someone a long time ago looking for more pieces. It would be nice to find out more about this!!!

My parents also returned from WW2 with a coffee pot, cream, and sugar pieces with the lovely silver overlay.
I had never seen another piece similar until your post. I took my pieces to the Antique Roadshow in Louisville, KY a couple of years ago. I was told that the pattern was a silver plate overlay and that it was a fairly common pattern. No value was given.

The shape was called Chippendale. Period of production between 1943 - 1952.
